One happy owner had this to say about the Makita BDF452HW:
This new driver/drill from Makita is a great piece of work. The BDF452HW is super light, easy to handle and has good power. The batteries are physically small, but still pack 18 volts. The Li-Ion batteries stay full power until right at the end of the charge. They recharge in 15 minutes (for real).
Makita have capitalized on the advantages of new battery technology and combined it with a well built, smooth, advanced tool. If you want a medium to medium heavy duty drill, this lightweight beauty is close to perfect. It is reliable and feels like quality and has the umph to drill even 2″ Rock Maple and drive 2″ lag screws into the same Rock Maple with no sweat.
I still think it is the best drill/driver in this price/usage range.

DeWalt DC720KA Review
For sale on Amazon.com for only $155.99! (At time of publishing)
The DeWalt DC720KA Cordless Drill and Driver is built with an ergonomic pistol-grip for comfortable handling that helps to ensure accurate results and the convenient built-in LED light improves visibility. This drill/driver weighs in at an easy-to-manage 4.8 pounds.
Being cordless, the DC720KA allows you to move quickly between projects without the hassle of a cord or outlet. With the one-hour Ni-Cad charger, you can reduce downtime and quickly recharge the long-life 18-volt Ni-Cad batteries.
This DeWalt cordless drill is sold by Amazon.com for more than 60% off of retail price! Click here now to get it at this fantastic price. And remember it comes with 2 batteries.
The DC720KA drill is small, relatively light, and has lots of power. The light on the front is a great feature and the one handed chuck is great. It even uses 18v XBR batteries, which is a nice feature if you are going to take it out somewhere.
These are just some of the features of the DeWalt DC720KA:
- Powerful, 18-volt design delivers 410 unit watts out
- Dual-range variable-speed control for job-specific applications
- Easy-to-maneuver, lightweight design
- Ergonomic grip for comfortable handling
- Three-year limited warranty, one-year free service, 90-day money-back guarantee
The DeWalt DC720KA is really versatile; because it’s a ½-inch drill, you can use the larger bits that other drills can’t handle and another advantage is the size; you can get at things in tighter quarters (like in shelf spaces) to drill and drive screws. Click here for full details and customer reviews.
One of the owners had this to say about the DeWalt DC720KA:
I chose the Dewalt because of the power and construction of the tool. I think the 410 UWO DeWalt quotes probably equates to nearly peak torque of at least 450 ft lbs if not more. Also, I really liked the fact that Dewalt uses all-metal gears and it has solid magnet construction in its motor.
Having a back-up battery negates the charge time issue. In terms of real world performance, I am really happy so far. This sucker has power. I really like the LED light. The added slightly higher weight of the NiCd battery gives the drill really good balance. The trigger felt right and I was able to modulate the speed very accurately (which translates to true variable speed!).

This drill is incredible, it has loads of power, long lasting and quick charging batteries, it is easy to hold for long periods of time, one hand chuck, good feel in the hand, and the dual speed range is just right.
The DeWalt DC759KA has some great features including:
- Compact size to fit into tight spots
- Dual speed range (0-to-450 RPM and 0-to-1,500 RPM)
- High-performance motor delivers up to 380 unit watts

- Included with drill/driver: one-hour charger, two 18-volt batteries, double-ended screwdriver bit, and heavy-duty kit box
The 18v DC759KA is a perfect solution with all the necessary torque. Surprisingly that it is not much bigger or heavier than the 9.6 v drill with most of the additional weight/bulk in the battery. Battery life is not an issue either since it comes with two batteries and one will charge faster than the other can be drained. Click here for full details and customer reviews.
One of the user reviews said this about the DeWalt DC759KA cordless drill:
I do construction for a living and I purchased the DeWalt 18V DC759KA because I needed a more powerful drill than what I was using. This drill is more than powerful enough for both the everyday consumer and for contractor use. Being a contractor some of my tools get pretty beat up and this DeWalt cordless drill is no exception, it’s been through hell and back and still runs like a champ.
In fact, I was so impressed that the DC759KA held up so well to abuse I put it through, that I purchased a secord one for my personal use at home. I highly recommend this drill to anyone looking for a powerful reliable drill.

One of the owners had this to say about the DeWalt DCD970KL:
I decided to stick with 18V since I had so many other tools of that series and the batteries are forward and backward compatable. This has got to be the perfect drill. The drill chuck is all metal, holds super tight and is of a machine tool quality. The transmission is 3 speed and the whole unit just has a very rugged feel. The power is awesome. While not scientific, this thing must have at least 50% more torque and power than my previous drills.
I can drive 3.5″ deck screws into dry wood using high speed and cut a 4″ hole saw into wood using medium speed. I even mixed a 5 gal pale of drywall mud with a beater using the low speed. This thing is almost on par with my 1/2″ dewalt corded drill. The other nice thing is that the lithium ion battery seams to hold its power right up to the last second. Then the battery just shuts itself off. This scared me the first time. I was really torquing the drill and I thought I had blown something. But that is just how the battery operates.
The only negative is that the drill is heavier then I have been used to. Of course this is offset by the lighter battery but you might be disappointed if you are looking for a feather weight. It also seams to be a little bit longer then some of my other drills of this style by about 3/4 inch. Getting in between studs seams to be a little tighter then I’m used too. But this drill also includes a hammer feature and it is way shorter then my previous hammer drills.
Over all I’m very happy with this drill and was very impressed with its performance.

With this DeWalt cordless screwdriver stripped screw heads and insufficient torque is a thing of the past. The torque adjustment is really great and the adjustment steps are very nicely spaced throughout the torque range.
Here are some of the outstanding features of the DW920K-2:
- 80 in-lbs of maximum torque output provides for a superior power to weight ratio in a variety of fastening applications
- Adjustable two-position handle allows for operation as both in-line and pistol-grip
- variable speed and reversing trigger switch provides 0-500 rpm for fastening and pre-drilling into wood, plastic, and light-gauge metal
- Industrial quick-release hex-shank chuck allows for quick screwdriver bit change and prevents bit run out
- Electric brake provides increased productivity; 7.2-voly battery pack allows for longer run-time and charges in one hour
This cordless screwdriver is very well-made with quality materials and feels solid in the hand. All of the controls work smoothly and precisely. The battery packs that came with the kit are also made of sturdy plastic material. And the battery charger does indeed work as fast as advertised. Click here for full details and reviews.
Here is what one of the owners had to say about the DeWalt DK920K-2:
I am more than impressed with the power this little screwdriver has. Screwing 3 inch screws into a pair of 2×4′s by hand or by using a drill and Phillips bit is not an easy task. The DeWalt however, has the power to get the job done easily. I don’t have to soap the screws either, a task that was necessary with my old cordless screwdriver.
I set the clutch to 15 for these tough jobs. When the clutch engages, the DeWalt sounds like an air ratchet. The thing just oozes power.
The 1 hour charger works as advertised. My depleted battery packs are completely recharged in under an hour.
The DeWalt two position handle is a welcome enhancement from my inline Craftsman cordless screwdriver. I find that I am using the pistol grip postion almost exclusively.
One feature that took some getting used to is the location of the forward, lock, reverse switch. Its location is more suitable for a left handed person than for a right handed person.
To say the very minimum, I am very satisfied with my DeWalt.

One of the owner reviews make these points about the DeWalt DCD950B Cordless Drill:
The DeWalt DC950B will handle both 18v li-ion and ni-cad batteries. New features include the newer chuck, the metal transmission, and the LED worklight.
It has the low gear/high gear shifter on top as part of the metal transmission with the hammer selection for masonary work.
This unit (the DCD950B) combines the best of the old and the new (LED light, metal tranny, and a pack adapter that works for either pack). Those using it for light jobs around the house may consider the li-ion pack while those using it to cut big holes with one plunge may want the extra current available from the xrp nicad packs. Either way its a winner.

It is powerful enough for everything you’ll thrown at it, and it is well made and sturdy,It has low speed low torque through low speed high/fixed torque and high speed for drilling. It fits comfortably in the hand. On the down side though, the drill bit holder on the side is pretty hard to get the bit out of.
Some great features of the BD12PSK are:
- Easy-to-read power settings give you the precise torque you need for your job
- T-style handlefor improved comfort; keyless chuck makes changing bits easy
- Designed for working with wood, metal, and plastic

Click here for full details and customer reviews of the BD12PSK.
Some tips to prolong your battery life: use the drill until the battery charge is close to or completely depleted, fully recharge it and disconnect from charger when charged. Do not overcharge the battery and do not regularly charge it when you’ve only used it for a little while. If you follow these tips, there is no reason your battery can’t last a long time.
One of the owner reviews has this to say about the Black and Decker BD12PSK:
The Black & Decker BD12PSK is very stable, very well constructed and is capable of handling some heavy work! Try 1/2 inch steel with a titanium drill bit…chewed thru it like a fat man at an all you can eat buffet!! I’m very happy with this product and for what it lacks in lights, it makes up for in raw power.
I’ve been a tradesman for going on 20 years and have toolboxes taller than anyone reading this and i can assure you, if this product was worthless, i would most definitely give it the heave. If you’re on a budget or are looking for a good replacement for your old beat up 12-volt, this is a great start and it WILL get the job done, but always use the right tool for the right job and you’ll be amazed at just how long it will last.
Overall, great product in an economical package!
A couple of warnings: the plug- in charger is small, so keep an eye out for it. And this drill has NO charger indicator anywhere on it, so when you plug it in, be mindful of how long you’ve had it on the charger and DO NOT keep it plugged in constantly or you’ll kill the battery fast.
